No sugar challenge!
Easter, Kids’ birthdays, one of my best friends makes amazing Brazilian sweets, mom brought me tons of chocolates from Brazil… well, I went from a non sugar person to a sweet tooth lady in a second. But hey, I have interstitial cystitis and I know the damage that sugar do to my body. I can tell my body is hurting again. In two weeks I’ll be traveling to Brazil and I’ll be eating some of the yummy desserts that I have been missing. So, I have decided to do a little detox to clean my body a little. I won’t be radical, I will only cut sugar and caffeine.
Who else finds this so difficult?!
It’s so true: those who decide to cut sugar from their diet to change their eating habits will face many trials.
First, because it is present in many of the foods we consume, and in different forms, such as corn syrup. This causes the pleasure center in the brain to be constantly activated by our sugar consumption, triggered by dopamine.
Over time, our body builds up a certain tolerance, and we need greater amounts of glucose to have the same euphoric effect. So when we try to stop eating sugar, we almost go through a withdrawal crisis. I have decided to create a list with some of the most common symptoms that appear when we cut back on sugar and tips on how to overcome them and move on. With changes in the dopamine cycle and spikes in blood insulin can cause strong - and insatiable - cravings for sweets. The best way to overcome this craving is to eat healthy fats (such as those found in chestnuts and avocados) or sweet potatoes.
Let's start moving this beautiful body!
